DMA firmware explained: which tier do you need?

The firmware is the code loaded into your DMA card's chip. It decides what device the card claims to be when your PC asks, which is why it matters more than the card itself. Here is what changes between tiers.

What firmware does

When your PC starts, it asks every PCIe device what it is. Default DMA firmware answers with the ID of a known DMA board. Custom firmware answers like a normal device, such as a network or sound card, and behaves like one. The closer the copy, the harder the card is to tell apart from ordinary hardware.

Shared builds and unique builds

Most firmware tiers are shared builds: the same firmware is used by many buyers. Our Option 2A and Option 2B are unique builds instead of shared firmware. Option 2B is also made for AMD PCs with IOMMU restrictions.
